John C. Kois, D.M.D., M.S.D. - Director

Received his D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine and Certificate in Periodontal Prosthodontics with a M.S.D. degree from the University of Washington, School of Dentistry. He maintains a private practice limited to Prosthodontics in Tacoma and Seattle and is an Affiliate Professor in the Graduate Restorative Program at the University of Washington. Dr. Kois continues to lecture nationally and internationally, is a reviewer for many journals and is the co-Editor in Chief for The Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry. Dr. Kois is the recipient of the 2002 Saul Schluger Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence in Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from both the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Additionally, he is the recipient of the 2014 Dr. Thaddeus V. Weclew Award, which is presented annually to a dedicated educator who embodies the spirit of comprehensive dental care. He is the past President of both the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry and American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, and a member of numerous other professional organizations. In addition, he continues to work with restorative dentists at the Kois Center, a didactic and clinical teaching program.

Operations Team



John C. Kois Jr

Title: Chief Executive Officer

Johnny received his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Washington. After his time as the CFO of a local technology company, he is now bringing his leadership and professional expertise to the Kois Center. Johnny oversees company operations to ensure the highest quality experience for all participants and cost-effective management of resources. He will continue to work toward advancing the Kois Center’s technology, keeping the center in the forefront of continuing dental education.



Alyssa Smith

Title: Chief Financial Officer

Alyssa received her Business Administration degree from Seattle Pacific University with a concentration in Management and Finance. Her primary role at the Kois Center is overseeing all financial and accounting needs of the business. Additionally, Alyssa assists in the management of operations of the Center and the Alumni communication.



Jonathan Zeitler

Title:IT Director

Jonathan provides onsite IT & AV support for the Center and fields various technical questions from participants. He also oversees the interactive side of the course material preparation and delivery to the KoisDentalEd App and Kois Center website. Additionally, Jonathan produces graphical content for Dr. Kois’ outside lecture presentations and the Center’s marketing materials.



LaShonna McBride

Title:Registration and Alumni Relations Manager

LaShonna is responsible for managing the daily operations of course registration and payments. While staying in constant communication with course participants, she also serves as the liaison for the Center committees and is the point of contact for all new student inquiries.



Molly Swesey

Title:Operations Manager

Molly oversees all logistics during and leading up to course day. She is in charge of all vendor relations directly related to the courses. Additionally, she helps to maintain the high level of quality of our courses by supporting the Course Managers whenever possible.



Heather Gagliano

Title:Course Manager

Heather communicates with participants before, during, and after their visit to the Center, making sure all of their needs are being met, if not exceeded. She also handles many of the administrative and logistical details related to each course, including keeping the Center lobby stocked with lots of healthy and tasty snacks. Additionally, she helps to maintain the high level of quality of our courses by supporting Dr. Kois and the adjunctive faculty as necessary.



Rebecca Arnold

Title:Course Manager

Rebecca communicates with participants before, during, and after their visit to the Center, making sure all of their needs are being met, if not exceeded. Achara Supaphakorn

Title: Senior Graphic Designer

Achara creates and enhances a portion of the digital and printed course materials and presentations for ongoing courses, as well as the Kois Center Annual Symposium. Her goal is to provide the best representation of Dr. Kois’ knowledge and expertise and to enhance the experience of everyone who visits the Kois Center.



Elizabeth Grauvogel

Title: Graphic Designer

As a Graphic Designer, Elizabeth produces and augments a portion of the digital and printed course content and presentations for Kois courses, and the Kois Center Annual Symposium. She is dedicated to ensuring that Dr. Kois’ teachings are accurately embodied through the course material and strives to provide an outstanding experience for participants.



Jennifer Thompson

Title:Special Programs Manager

Jen's primary role is to oversee the expanding projects of the Kois Center. She develops and manages the collaborative research studies between the Center and its members and is also responsible for the logistics and schedule of the Kois Center Annual Symposium Youth Program. Having a multifaceted role, Jen coordinates the office schedule, works closely with Dr. Kois to efficiently communicate with outside parties, supports daily operations of the Center, and assists the design team in creating the digital and printed course content and presentations for Kois courses.



Dr. Yada Chaiyabutr

Title: Research Director

Bio: Yada received her D.D.S. and Diploma in Clinical Sciences from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. She performed research at the Biomaterials Research Laboratory at the Boston University leading to a D.Sc. degree in 2002. Received a Certificate in Prosthodontics with an M.S.D. from University of Washington in 2006 and is currently an affiliate instructor in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Washington. Yada’s research interests involve analyses of new dental materials using fatigue testing and evaluations of current dental materials for clinical applications.
