2010 Kois Center Symposium

Kois Center Symposium

Symposium Overview

The Kois Center is far more than a dental training center; it is a supportive community of motivated dental professionals, with the inclusion of their families, who encourage one another in professional development and growth while in the mutual pursuit of advancement in dentistry.

Although the primary focus of the annual Kois Center Symposium is centered around providing a yearly update on the newest research, products and protocols in dentistry, it also has another very important purpose: to offer Kois Center members and their families a great opportunity to build and maintain meaningful relationships and friendships with like-minded peers.

Beyond the Scientific Program, the symposium includes a training meeting for Clinical Instructors, activity-filled programs for Spouse/Guest and Youth, and a “Friday night event” during which the entire Kois Center community can get together and celebrate.

Scientific Program

The annual Scientific Program – open to Kois Center Graduates, Mentors, Clinical Instructors and Recognized Specialists – is a comprehensive review and analysis of the most current literature, practices and protocols in esthetic, implant and restorative dentistry. Attendees gain an incredible amount of knowledge in a relatively short period of time through a process that breaks complex topics into smaller parts thus facilitating a thorough understanding of the material. In fact, members are routinely able to incorporate and implement much of what has been presented at the Symposium the day they return to practice.

Throughout the year Dr. John Kois, along with Dr. Yada Chaiyabutr and his Scientific Advisors, analyze and sift through a vast collection of scientific content from recent publications for relevance and efficacy, ensuring attendees are presented with only the most appropriate, evidence-based research. The program, which also includes presentations by motivational speakers and a selection of Kois Center members, is sure to be thoroughly engaging, educational and enjoyable.

Clinical Instructor Program

The Clinical Instructors meeting affords Kois Center Clinical Instructors (CIs) an opportunity to stay up-to-date on the latest information developed by Dr. Kois, the Kois Center team, Committees and Members. As the Kois Center constantly evolves, as the literature and information dictates, the Center and the CIs recognize the need to carry on training beyond initial qualifications – to maintain, upgrade and update skills continuously. The meeting provides a time and venue for the CIs to facilitate this training, calibrate to the ever-rising standards, and work closely with Dr. Kois to further develop the Center and themselves.

Spouse/Guest Program

For Scientific Program attendees who are bringing loved ones and friends to the Symposium, the Spouse/Guest program is a great way for companions to connect with the Kois Center and participate in a memorable weekend in Seattle. Activities for the Spouse/Guest Program always involve sightseeing, enjoying great food and drinks, and good company of course. I’m looking forward to seeing you all again, and for those of you who are new, I can’t wait to meet you and get to know you better!

– Karen Kois, Spouse/Guest Program Director

Youth Program

The Youth Program is a three day, all-inclusive, action-packed program for the kids (or “kids-at-heart”!) of those attending the Scientific Program. The supervised program, for youth ages 6 and older, provides a fun way for kids to explore, play and experience the weekend. The focus is on uniquely Seattle-area activities that the group can do together and enjoy. Past examples have included river rafting, rock climbing and a scavenger hunt at the Pacific Science Center. I look forward to seeing all of you for another unforgettable summer in Seattle!
